Visual Craftsmanship for a Digital Age
In an era dominated by rapid-fire mobile content and AI-generated imagery, authenticity has become the ultimate luxury. While automated tools are accessible, they often lack the soul, depth, and technical precision required to truly move an audience.
At Studio Hofstad, we believe that standing out from the noise requires more than just a camera—it requires a seasoned professional’s eye for storytelling and a mastery of the craft. We provide a platform for those who refuse to settle for the 'good enough' approach. By choosing intentional, high-end visual artistry over convenience, you signal a commitment to excellence that speaks louder and clearer to your customers.
Since our official launch in 2024, we have had the privilege of serving a diverse clientele—from local visionaries in Bodø to global productions reaching as far as Hollywood. If you have a vision fueled by ambition, we are here to ensure your story is captured with the distinction it deserves.
About Studio Hofstad: Thomas
Dedicated videographer, photographer, and colorist based in Bodø, Northern Norway. With a diverse background in computer science, studio engineering, and music performance, I possess a unique insight into both the technical architecture and the artistic soul of visual storytelling.
“There's an infinite depth to this art form that continues to inspires me—the quest for the perfect capture is my journey.”
I have always been a perfectionist with an eye for detail. This drive for excellence led me to specialize in high-end workflows and photography in the most challenging environments Northern Norway has to offer.
Expertise & Professional Workflow
To ensure results that meet the highest standards of the industry, I utilize state-of-the-art equipment and advanced post-production techniques:
Cinematography & Photography: Expert proficiency with the Sony Cinema Line (FX-line) and Sony Alpha systems (A1 II / A7V), delivering everything from 8K resolution to high-speed action.
The Art of Lighting: Experienced in advanced lighting setups for both photo and video—essential for creating mood, depth, and clarity in studio environments or on-location shoots. This also includes proficiency in lightning setups for print-level northern lights portraits.
Post-Production & Color: Deeply invested into advanced workflows featuring DaVinci Resolve, Capture One, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, with extensive experience in utilizing ProRes RAW for high end video production.
Northern Lights Specialization: I am proud to be among the first cinematographers to successfully pioneer high-end real-time aurora cinematography using the Sony FX6. By developing a specialized workflow—utilizing advanced capture methods and controlled noise reduction techniques—I have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in extreme low-light environments. While many rely on standard internal processing and generic LUT’s, my process ensures a cleaner, more cinematic image that preserves the true, ethereal movement of the Northern Lights without compromising on detail or color fidelity. The experience I have from this camera also translates into how I now produce northern lights videos with my current A1 II, a camera that in every way takes things at least one step up. I offer training in the craft of northern lights photo and videography for both beginners and fellow professionals.
Audio Engineering: My background in studio engineering and Cubase Pro ensures that dialogue and music in my video productions are as pristine as the visuals.
Custom Soundscapes & Composition:
Beyond capturing the visuals, I am a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Whether a project requires soft ambient textures, classic rock energy, or a full-scale orchestral score, I produce original music tailored to each film. This background as a singer, drummer, guitarist, and pianist allows me to synchronize every frame with a bespoke soundtrack, providing my clients with a truly unique and royalty-free audio-visual experience.Technical Foundation: My background in computer science (including HTML/CSS/JavaScript) provides a deep understanding of digital platforms and web-optimized content delivery.
Whether it’s a corporate interview, a commercial production, or a once-in-a-lifetime private moment under the aurora, I bring technical mastery and a passion for excellence to every frame.
Sheena - Art Director and Photographer
Sheena’s creative work is fueled by a lifelong passion for design, fashion, and aesthetic harmony. As a key creative pillar of Studio Hofstad, she specializes in portraiture, lifestyle, and product photography, bringing a refined "Eagle-eye" for detail to every production.
“I strive to capture natural beauty in motion—finding those genuine, unscripted moments where a person’s true character shines through.”
Originally from the Philippines, Sheena provides a unique international perspective, blending diverse cultural influences with the dramatic landscapes of Northern Norway.
Creative Direction & Technical Skill
Sheena plays a dual role in our productions, balancing technical execution with artistic leadership:
On-Set Direction: Sheena is often the creative lead before and during shoots, developing visions, instructing models and planning compositions to ensure the vision comes to life.
Photography & Video: An accomplished creator in her own right, she utilizes the Sony Alpha 7V for both high-end stills and cinematic video.
Lighting & Production: She is instrumental in our advanced lighting setups, ensuring the perfect ambiance for both studio and location work.
Post-Production: She is proficient in professional workflows using Capture One, DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe Creative Cloud, ensuring a consistent and premium look across all deliverables.
Vocal Talent: A classically trained soprano, providing professional female vocals for our original soundtracks.
With her warm presence and meticulous attention to detail, Sheena ensures that every client feels comfortable on set while maintaining the uncompromising quality standards Studio Hofstad is known for.
Technical Assets & Capabilities
Cameras:
Sony A1 II (8K/4K High-speed). Sony’s best camera, and a strong next step from the FX6 even for video. No compromises, it is the best camera on the market for almost everything.
Sony Alpha 7V - Almost as good as the A1 II, which says alot. A serious contender for best low-light video camera.
Optics:
Sony 50-150mm f/2 GM - A versatile powerhouse that speeds up reframing on-set while delivering absolutely stunning, tack-sharp imagery.
Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM - I like to call it the “VIP lens” for its ability to produce clients favourite shots.
Sigma 14mm f/1.4 - The northern lights bigma, the most technically excellent northern lights lens produced to date.
Contax Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 and 135mm f/2.8 MMJ - Among the best lenses money could buy in their prime, and still are today, at a fraction of the cost. These are probably my all-time favourite lenses, vintage enough to give a hint of vintage when needed, modern enough to fit a modern look, producing absolutely stunning images.
Monitoring & Recording: Atomos Shogun (ProRes RAW and workflow enabler).
Studio Setup: Neumann U87 (the industry standard for vocals/dialogue), coupled with Cubase Pro, Spectrasonics, and Toontrack software for professional-grade scoring and sound design.
Lighting: Sony flashes, Aputure LEDs for studio and on-location production.
Additionals: DJI RS4 Pro gimbal, Sakk Cinesaddle, Manfrotto videostand, and more.
